Survei Minat dan Motivasi Siswa Madrasah Aliyah terhadap Pembelajaran Pendidikan Jasmani Olahraga dan Kesehatan
A Survey on Madrasah Aliyah Students’ Interest and Motivation in Physical, Sports, and Health Education
Abstract
This study aims to describe the levels of learning interest and motivation among students of State Madrasah Aliyah (Islamic Senior High Schools) in Tasikmalaya City toward Physical Education (PE) learning. The study is grounded on the assumption that students in madrasah tend to prioritize religious subjects, making it necessary to empirically examine their interest and motivation in PE. A quantitative approach with a descriptive survey design was employed. The sample consisted of 150 students selected through random sampling from three State Madrasah Aliyah. Research instruments included the Physical Education Learning Interest Scale and an adapted version of the Academic Motivation Scale (AMS) to measure intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. The results show that students’ learning interest is in the moderate category (61.33%) with a mean score of 2.98. Intrinsic motivation is also in the moderate category (56.00%) with a mean of 3.05, while extrinsic motivation is in the high category (49.33%) with a mean of 3.12. These findings indicate that students’ engagement in PE is driven more by external factors than by internal motivation. The study concludes that PE instruction in madrasah needs to focus on enhancing intrinsic motivation and providing more meaningful learning experiences. Future research may explore factors contributing to the relatively low intrinsic motivation using qualitative approaches.
