Post-Publication Discussion

Post-Publication Discussion

Scholarly discussion does not end at publication. SJME (Supremum Journal of Mathematics Education) welcomes constructive, evidence-based comments, questions, and critiques of its published articles.

Formal discussion takes the form of a Letter to the Editor and the authors' Reply, handled fairly and transparently in line with COPE and ICMJE recommendations.

1. Ways to Take Part

Letter to the Editor →

Formal scholarly discussion of a published article, which may be published together with the authors' reply.

Contacting the Authors →

Questions about methods, instruments, or data may be addressed directly to the corresponding author named in the article.

External Platforms →

Comments on platforms such as PubPeer may be considered, but are not a formal notification to the journal.

Reporting Misconduct →

Concerns about possible misconduct follow a separate, confidential procedure, not a public letter.

2. Scope of Discussion

A Letter to the Editor must directly address an article published in SJME (Supremum Journal of Mathematics Education). It may discuss:

Appropriate topics:

  • Research methodology, research design, instruments, data analysis, or findings.
  • Interpretation of results, theoretical assumptions, or alternative explanations.
  • Accuracy of data, references, calculations, figures, tables, or technical information.
  • Limitations of the research, its practical implications, or its applications in mathematics education and learning.
  • Replication, validation, or comparison of the findings in other research contexts, such as different schools, levels, or countries.

This channel is not intended for:

  • Appeals against editorial decisions on unpublished manuscripts.
  • General complaints about journal administration or services.
  • Personal, institutional, commercial, or political disputes.
  • Defamatory statements or allegations not supported by evidence.
  • Unjustified requests for citation, or submissions presenting substantial new research.

3. How to Submit a Letter

Send the letter to supremum@fkip.unsika.ac.id with the subject line "Post-Publication Discussion - [Article Title]". The submission must include:

  • The title, DOI, and issue (volume, number, and year) of the article being discussed.
  • A clear explanation of the concern, supported by scholarly reasoning, evidence, and relevant references.
  • The names, affiliations, emails, and ORCID iDs (if available) of all letter authors.
  • Declarations of conflicts of interest, funding, and any substantive use of generative AI tools.

Letters must be original, written in English, professional and respectful in tone, and not submitted elsewhere. References must follow APA 7th edition. Submitting a letter is free of charge.

4. Editorial Assessment

1. Acknowledgment: Letters are acknowledged within 7 working days and assessed by the Editor-in-Chief or an editor without a conflict of interest.
2. Evaluation: The editor evaluates the letter's relevance, scholarly substance, supporting evidence, and objectivity.
3. Review and Revision: Complex technical or methodological claims may be sent for external review. Revisions or clarifications may be requested.
4. Decision: The editor accepts or declines the letter. Letters may be declined if they lack scholarly arguments or contain personal attacks.

The identity of letter authors is shown when published; anonymous letters are not published.

5 & 6. Authors' Right of Reply & Publication

When a Letter to the Editor is accepted, the original authors are invited to submit a Reply, normally within 30 days. Discussion is generally limited to one Letter and one Reply.

Accepted Letters and Replies are published as separate scholarly items with their own DOIs, freely accessible under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License (CC BY-SA 4.0).

7. Errors and Suspected Misconduct

Issue How it is handled
Errors Handled under the Correction and Retraction policy. A Letter to the Editor does not replace an official correction.
Research misconduct Must be reported confidentially under the Allegations of Research Misconduct policy, not as public letters.

8. Discussion on External Platforms

Comments published on social media, academic forums, preprint servers, or external peer-review services such as PubPeer may be considered when they contain credible and verifiable evidence. However, such comments do not constitute formal notification to the journal. Anyone seeking an official editorial response must contact the journal directly at redaksi_supremum@.unsika.ac.id.
