Analisis Kesulitan Mahasiswa dalam Menyelesaikan Tugas Statistika Dasar Berbasis Proyek

Abstract

This study aims to identify students’ difficulties in completing project assignments in the Basic Statistics course and to describe the forms of scaffolding provided to overcome these difficulties. The research employs a descriptive qualitative approach with fourth–semester students of the Mathematics Education Program at a university in the Malang Raya area as the subjects. Data were collected through project assignment sheets, interviews, and documentation. Documentation was used to gather documents needed as data sources, while assignment sheets served to determine the research subjects. Interviews were conducted to explore students’ reasons and processes in completing the project tasks stated in the assignment sheets. The interviews were unstructured, meaning that questions were not prepared in advance but were adjusted according to the situation and unique characteristics of each student who became the research subject. The results show that students experienced various difficulties, including cognitive difficulties in distinguishing between single and grouped data, procedural difficulties in constructing frequency distribution tabels, and representational difficulties in converting percentages into degree measures in pie charts. In addition, an instructional factor was identified, namely the lack of guidance regarding the steps for data grouping. To address these difficulties, scaffolding was provided in the form of guiding questions, step–by–step examples, technical guidance on calculation procedures, and structured reflection.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi kesulitan mahasiswa dalam menyelesaikan tugas proyek pada mata kuliah Statistika Dasar serta mendeskripsikan bentuk scaffolding yang diberikan untuk mengatasi kesulitan tersebut. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif dengan subjek mahasiswa semester empat Program Studi Tadris Matematika salah satu Universitas di Malang Raya. Data dikumpulkan melalui lembar tugas proyek, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Dokumentasi dalam penelitian ini digunakan untuk mengumpulkan sejumlah dokumen yang diperlukan sebagai bahan data informasi, sedangkan lembar tugas digunakan untuk menentukan subjek penelitian. Wawancara digunakan untuk mengetahui alasan mahasiswa dalam menyelesaikan tugas proyek yang ada dalam lembar tugas. Wawancara yang dilakukan merupakan wawancara tidak terstruktur, sehingga pertanyaan tidak disusun terlebih dahulu tetapi disesuaikan dengan keadaan dan ciri yang unik dari mahasiswa yang nantinya akan dijadikan subjek penelitian Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa mahasiswa mengalami berbagai kesulitan, antara lain kesulitan kognitif dalam membedakan data tunggal dan kelompok, kesulitan prosedural dalam membuat tabel distribusi frekuensi, serta kesulitan representasi dalam mengonversi persentase ke sudut derajat pada diagram lingkaran. Selain itu, ditemukan pula faktor instruksional berupa kurangnya arahan langkah-langkah pengelompokan data. Untuk mengatasi kesulitan tersebut, diberikan scaffolding berupa pertanyaan pemantik, contoh bertahap, bimbingan teknis langkah perhitungan, serta refleksi terbimbing.
